In 2007, Shoal Creek Baptist Church celebrated 100 years as a constituted Church. Shoal Creek Baptist Church, originally known as Upper Shoal Creek Church, began in 1907 and was received into the Yancey Association. We now worship in our new facility, which God blessed us with in 2006.
Shoal Creek Baptist Church first worshiped in a schoolhouse, which was a log building on Shoal Creek Road. This building served the Church as well until a new schoolhouse was constructed. In 1945 when Yancey County Schools consolidated, the schoolhouse was no longer needed. In 1952, Shoal Creek Baptist Church purchased the school property, renovated the schoolhouse, and began having services there in 1955. Church growth continued, and in 1971 work began on a new red brick Church. After much diligent work, the congregation moved into this building in 1972.
God continued to add souls to His kingdom and in 2002, land was purchased on Hwy 19E because of limited space to expand at their present location. Praise be to God, the new Church on Hwy 19E was completed in 2006; and our first service was held on October 29, 2006. Our mission at Shoal Creek is to exalt Christ, to edify and equip the body, and to evangelize the world. To God be the glory, great things He has done!
